LCD 42 Inch TV, Why do we want it so much?

A few years ago I came to visit an old friend in his house, after offering a drink or two he said that we wants to show me his wife’s gift for his upcoming birthday. It was one of the first LG 42 Inch LCD models and if my memory is still good, it was the very first LCD TV I ever saw, I of course heard about them before but I didn’t see any at that time or at least not so close to me. After staring at it for a few minutes I just knew it, I’m getting myself an LCD TV, and a big one!

A few years back, the prices as you all remember were much higher than they are today in 2009, the first few models weren’t for anyone’s pocket at all but I just knew that I’m about to get one, no matter what.

I personally think that there is something in big flat televisions which is much more than just a sharp picture in a wide screen. Everybody talk about the quality, about the resolution, about the fast response time that does actually indicate on something (on the time that passes as one cell is activated until the time it’s inactive again) – and yes, it is important for watching movies. Everybody also talk about the Image brightness which indicates on the colours in the scale range from the white and to the black. Also, the same people talk about the contrast ratio which is very important as well as the higher the contrast ratio will be the higher the quality of the presented image should be, but, all of those including some crazy new inputs or great quality speakers (well maybe the speakers, as we love the loud sound) are not why we really want to have this Big Flat LCD screen TV. That is being said while we know that the mentioned features (When they are good of course) can actually make the TV much better, at least in terms of watching it and not in terms of looking at it.

The very first reason why people desire big Flat TV Screens are because they are Big, Flat and because they look great in your living room, your “movies room” or in your bedroom. In most countries, the HDTV “service” wasn’t available at first; people still wanted them and bought them even when they knew that the prices will drop in the future. When I told you about my visit in my old friend’s house, I realized that I want to get one for myself even before he turned it on and we saw the picture.

In general, Men love gadgets, we love everything that is cool, new, and we love having it before anyone else, I actually asked a few people and after convincing them to be honest, they said that they bought an LCD 42 Inch TV just because their brother/neighbor or a colleague bought a 32 or a 37 Inch TV. It’s ridiculous but true and I heard it so many times.

Another thing is that after the huge and fat CRT Televisions, the Flat LCD TV looks just amazing, like a picture on the wall, and at least for me since “Back to the future part 2”, I think that we all are looking forward for any new toys that implies that we are moving forward a bit closer to the future.

Today, comparing to a few years back we also witness a trend of skinnier LCD TVs, Televisions that are so thin that they actually remind us a picture on a wall much more than a Television. Companies like Sony and Sharp already revealed LCD Televisions with a thickness of about an Inch which really might be the next big thing in the LCD industry.

As you all know, the prices are dropping and they are dropping all the time. 42 Inch LCD Televisions today start at £500 and can reach up to £2000 for some models.

Basically, if you are about to buy a new 42” LCD TV, there are three very important things you need to do/check. You should first of all understand what exactly it is you need. You should be a little bit familiar with the LCD Technical Terms so that you’ll be able to understand what is that each TV is really offering you. If you have a chance, check out the TV in live, take a look and compare the picture between a few relevant models, check out the picture in the way your eyes see it.

Second of all, Make sure you didn’t miss anything. Read reviews about the specific model or ask in forums, see what people think after owning it for a while. Are there any disadvantages in this model you didn’t know about yet?

The last thing would be a little price comparison that you should do by yourself. In the Internet era it is very easy and recommended to compare between a few TV suppliers.
